The fast start system is used on GM's 3800 and 1993 or later engines.
Within 120 degree crankshaft rotation, the coil module can identify which coil to sequence, and thus start firing the spark plugs.
The next example is GM's Northstar system, which uses two crankshaft postion sensors. This allows the ignition system to begin firing the spark plugs within 180 degree of crankshaft rotation while starting the engine.
